Contact Lens Fittings

What You Need to Know About Contact Lens Fittings

If you are considering getting contacts, you should know that there are a lot of things to take into consideration. The process involved in so far as getting contacts is more extensive than the average person realizes. Most people are under the impression that a comprehensive eye exam is the only requirement they need to satisfy to safely transition into contact lenses, however, here at Dorothy Park & Associates in Columbia, SC, our contact lens fittings are designed to ensure our patients have a successful experience when they transfer into their contact lenses.

What You Need to Know About Contact Lens Fittings

There Is A Difference

You should take note that a comprehensive eye exam and contact lens fittings are not the same. The two exams have components that differ, and each is designed to accomplish its own unique set of goals. Contact lens fitting exams are designed to ensure your contact lenses fit appropriately, whereas comprehensive eye exams are conducted to assess the eyes and evaluate them for underlying eye diseases.

Contact Lens Fittings

The most important element of contact lens fittings is to ensure the contact lenses fit the eyes correctly and comfortably. Contact lenses that fail to fit properly can be painful and cause irreversible damage to the eyes. In addition, when contact lenses don’t fit properly they can impede your ability to see clearly. Our eye professionals perform a complete examination of the eyes of every patient before fitting them for contacts. A history and physical is also obtained on each of our contact lens candidates to make sure our patients don’t have any medical condition which would interfere with their ability to safely and successfully wear contacts. If our eye doctors make the determination that a patient can safely wear contact lenses, they select lenses they believe will fit the patient’s eyes. They will fit the lenses to the eyes until they find a pair that fits comfortably and allows the patient to see clearly.

You should be aware that beyond contact fitting exams and the daily care of your contacts, our team of eye professionals here at Dr. Dorothy Park & Associates in Columbia SC our commitment to our patients who wear contacts extends far beyond successful contact lens fittings. Our goal is to ensure the long-term health of your eyes during contact wear and beyond.
