As a patient who needs new eyeglasses, you can expect superior care involving one or more of the following services:
Visual acuity is determined by having patients undergo several tests that measure the ability of the eyes to see images at a distance, up close and in the periphery. Use of the Snellen Eye Chart is the most familiar test and is recognized as the chart with the large "E" positioned at the top, followed by additional alphabetic letters that gradually reduce in size. The Snellen Eye Chart gives the doctor the fractionized measurement of your vision with which we are all familiar.
According to how well you read a Snellen Eye chart, you may have "20/20" vision, which means you can clearly see things 20 feet away that a "normal" individual sees when viewing images 20 feet away. If your vision is judged as 20/60, then you need to be 20 feet away from the chart to view what a person with 20/20 vision sees when they are standing 60 feet away. A Snellen Eye chart fraction of 20/60 also means you are nearsighted and need corrective lenses.
Refraction tests--when your eyes have difficulty focusing (refracting) the light rays that reach the retinal area of the eyes, you may be diagnosed with nearsightedness or farsightedness. Our doctor will give you refraction tests that can determine whether your eyeglasses should be fitted with lenses to correct one of these vision problems.
